9 Natural Remedies
DISCLAIMER: The following information describes natural remedies that have worked for me. They are not intended to be viewed as professional advice. I am only sharing information based on my personal
Experiences. Your results may vary. You should check with a professional before attempting any self-treatment. Herbs can have side effects the same as prescription drugs. You may also be allergic or sensitive to the following treatments. Try them at your own risk, I assume no responsibility for what you do with the information on this page
Avocado: Peel, and remove the pit
Sprains: Avocado can relieve pain due to sprained joints. Puree it and apply it topically to the sprain.
Hair conditioner: Ripe avacado makes a great deep conditioner. Put it in the blender until smooth and then work through your hair. Leave it on for about 20 minutes. Wash it out (and keep in mind it will clog drains so use a garbage disposal or bucket).
Lemon Juice: Lemon juice can be helpful in fading freckles. I use straight lemon juice on a cotton ball and I leave it on for about 20 minutes. This can cause some irritation so do a patch test first. Lemon juice is also
A subtle bleach for lighter colored hair.
Jojoba oil:
Recommended Brand: Desert Essence
You can find this oil at some herbal supplies and natural foods markets. Originally, I tried it to clean hair follicles but it has turned out to be an awesome hair conditioner. I use it weekly and before sun exposure. I am not sure how others use it, but I apply it in the same amount as I would use a leave in conditioner. I leave it on for an hour as a treatment or for the duration of sun exposure, and then wash it out. It worked miracles for my hair. Keep in mind I am of Native american/Spanish/irish decent and have very coarse, curly hair so your results may be quite different.
Tea Tree Oil:
Recommended Brand: Desert Essence
In my experience, tea tree oil is the ultimate acne cure. Over the counter acne treatments have never done anything for me but add irritation to the acne. In contrast, tea tree oil had an amazing result. As a preventative, it keeps me acne free. If I don’t use it, and break out, it clears my skin up without fails within three days. It quickly brings even a cystic acne blemish to a head and heals drained blemishes very quickly. It does have some side effects.
I experienced some peeling, stinging and a tiny bit of redness. This is just how my skin reacted, so please do a patch test, check with a professional and use your own discretion. Also, Keep in mind that tea tree oil can be toxic when used internally and is literally poison to some companion animals. Keep it out of reach of pets, and avoid contact with your pets when using it externally.
Ginger Tea: Because this is internal remedy, I stress that I am only telling you what I use and works for me, not advising you to use it.
Indigestion, Nausea, Stomach upsets: I simmer several slices of fresh ginger root in 2 cups of water in a non metal container for about 15 minutes and drink it straight. It works for me with all but the most stubborn cases of indigestion, and mild cases of nausea not sue to a virus. It has also been very effective for alleviating menstrual cramps.
Cucumbers: Cucumbers can do wonders for puffy, tired eyes. You have probably heard of this, but I could not resist mentioning this, as the results can be truly amazing. Close your eyes and lay a cucumber slice on each. Leave them on for about 20 minutes.
Chamomile tea: good for mild cases of insomnia.
Sunburn cures:
Raw potato: helpful in healing harsh sunburn
Aloe gel: Use fresh aloe gel from a broken aloe leaf. Products containing aloe may not work the same. Doesn’t smell very good, IMO, but can help soothe sunburned skin.
