Our angel Cleo had to be helped to Rainbow Bridge 5-17-08. She was 14 years old.

We’d had Cleo since she was several months old. We rescued her from Putnam county animal control. I had gone there to pick out a dog for Marian's 3rd birthday present. The minute I laid eyes on her, I knew she was the one. Silly, bouncing, happy, completely unaware of the danger she was in. She just wanted affection.
She was the sweetest dog we ever had.   She definitely loved her mommy Marian best. She loved everyone she ever met, human or animal. She fussed over all the other animals like a mother hen. She knew our cats aren’t supposed to go outside, so if she saw one get near the door, she’d walk in a circle to "herd" them away from the door.  If a new cat or dog was scared when they came home, she’d go sit with them to try and comfort them.  Our poodle Lil is crated at night because she chews and we’re afraid she’ll choke on something. Lil hates it, but every night Cleo would  sit by the crate facing Lil to keep her company.  I have never in my life seen a dog that was as loving as she was.

Cleo loved all animals, but she loved her brother Sagittarius best, they were inseparable. She’s get so distressed when she was separated from him that if he had to go to the vet, we took her too. We made all of  their appointments on the same day so we cold take them together.  The Sagi monster loved his Cleo. I know my boy is sad without his sister, he keeps looking for her.  He and Lil have been hanging out and I am sure they will help each other adjust.

This is an old picture of Cleo, Marian and Nefreteri
when they were ALL a lot younger than they are now :D

Putnam County Animal Services
Cleo had a long happy life, and she was always loved. As I said, she was rescued from Putnam county animal control in Palatka, FL. She was supposed to be put to sleep that morning. The animal control officer said he thought she had a chance at being adopted so he put her back for another week. She was very lucky.  At the time, the shelter had a kill rate of over 90%. From what I understand its not much better now. Its in an area filled with a ton of people that don’t spay or neuter their pets, then dump them off, not to mention a large number of backyard breeders that breed more than the area’s population could reasonably buy or adopt.  In Cleo’s memory, I’d like to ask, if you live any reasonable distance from this place and ever want a dog, please consider adopting from this shelter. You will for SURE be saving a life! You may find a dog as special to you as Cleo was to our family.
